African Black Soap vs. Ghanaian White Soap

Posted by L R on

African Black Soap

Made in Ghana, Black Soap relieves acne and removes blemishes from the skin. It Cleans pores & rejuvenates the skin leaving skin fresh and clean. It also has properties that help brighten skin. Black Soap works by removing dead cells on the skins surface and allowing vitamin A, E and other important nutrients in. It also has antibacterial qualities. A study looked at how effective black soap was at stopping bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus epidermidis, Bacillus spp., Escherichia coli, Corynebacterium spp., and it was more effective at removing and reducing certain bacteria than the medicated soaps. For some, Black soap can be a bit harsh and drying to sensitive skin. It is recommended that you moisturize well after use. Black soap can be used on face, hands, body and hair (my personal favorite).

 Ingredients
Palm oil, Palm kernel Oil and Water

Ghanaian White Soap

Also hand made in Ghana. White Ghanian Soap is uniquely made and comes as 1 ball. The soap weighs between 5-7 ounces each.

 How White Soap is Made:

The soft soaps are made from Saponified Palm Kernel Oil. The production process is quite lengthy, but the ingredients are simple and natural (palm kernel oil and cocoa pod ash, same as black soap). The mixture is cooked and kneaded similar to hot process soap making. Once the soap is fully cooked, this fluffy mass starts to rise out of the pots and it is then collected. The women in the soap producing villages take the puffy mass and form them into softball like shapes. The soap lathers very well and will become darker and harder once water is introduced.

Benefits

White Soap is loaded with antibacterial, anti-fungal properties, antioxidants and vitamins A & E to help with inflammatory skin conditions such as eczema, acne, dry itchy skin, even razor bumps. Overtime, may help to fade blemishes and scars

Ingredients

Water, Shea Butter, Coconut oil, Plantain skin ash, Palm Kernel Oil and Coca Pod Ash

White Soap is just as effective as traditional black soap, but milder on the skin.
